Coaching excellence for collaborative project work.

Passion and growth

I love what I’m privileged to do with Li/MiTs (Leaders-in/Managers-in-Training). Bringing diverse people together, helping them unlock and develop the talents they have individually and collectively, so they can reach for the sky – that’s my passion. Seeing them achieve things they didn’t think were possible for them. Celebrating their reflection on how far they have come and how much further they can grow. I’m there to support and serve each of my people to be the best team members they can be by making sure they have best practice tools that are appropriate for their needs and that they can have the most positive experience learning how to use them.

Facing into a brave new future

Development of an integrated collaborative work and collaborative assessment project model for leadership and management Project-Based Learning in New Zealand. This is the PhD project that I am currently working on through Otago Polytechnic/Capable NZ.

Experience

Offices, factories, classrooms and corporate training spaces – I’ve worked in them all. I’ve been the most junior person being led and I’ve been the leader. I’ve scoped, managed and delivered projects. You could say that collaborative projects are my first love – I’m certainly in my happy place when I’m coaching Li/MiTs (Leaders-in/Managers-in-Training) to grow personally and professionally as project team members.

“Learning is a process that occurs within nebulous environments of shifting core elements – not entirely under the control of the individual.”

George Seimens

I can still remember my first experience of working in a formal team on a real project as part of my leadership and management studies at polytech like it was yesterday. While I brought a strong theoretical background into it, as well as some supervisory and management experience from outside the classroom, a lot of things I had learned from books didn’t work quite the same way in real life with real people. I think I learned more about working in a team in those 17 weeks than in years at university because I had to do it for real. Sharing the benefits of that amazing experience with others, and learning from thousands of Li/MiTs since then is what has driven me for more than twenty years.
